Proposition, The (2005) IMDB rating: 7.50 Plot: Rural Australia in the late nineteenth century: Capt. Stanley and his men capture two of the four Burns brothers, Charlie and Mike. Their gang is held responsible for attacking the Hopkins farm, raping pregnant Mrs. Hopkins and murdering the whole family. Arthur Burns, the eldest brother and the gang’s mastermind, remains at large has and has retreated to a mountain hideout. Capt. what is she thinking?
Ok, so I met a girl a couple weeks ago through a dating website, and we went on our first date the Sunday before last. Olive Garden, great conversation, bottle of wine, followed by some heavy kissing by her car, which led to going out for another drink, and more heavy kissing to end the night. Then last Thursday after work, she drove 30 minutes to my place in the snow, where we went out to dinner again, and then went back to my place to watch TV, which also involved some pretty good making out. She wasn’t interested in anything more that night, and I didn’t proposition her, she just put the brakes on when she had to leave (it was 11pm and she had to work in the morning). Friday night we went out to a standup comedy show. She was flirting more then, rubbing my leg, whispering in my ear, etc etc. After the date, she had to head home though because she had family stuff in the AM. Again, a pretty nice kiss to end the date. Now, I haven’t heard from her since that date. At all. Nothing. I sent her a couple text messages, no response. Any ideas as to what she might be thinking, or what my next move is??? I sent her a text last Sunday saying hi, then one saying I hope she had a good weekend, then sent another message Tuesday saying hi. Confused????

what did you think of the ending in Captain Corelli's Mandolin?
i’ve just finished reading the book and i feel like Antonio’s and Pelagia’s personalities totally changed to make the ending. Pelagia became submissive and Corelli became a bigot. what did other people think?

I love the ending, it sums up the overall message of the book because it’s neither happy nor sad. The fact that they have wasted most of their lives loving each other while being apart shows the tragedy of how war can tear people apart; it’s all about what might have been. But at the same time, the fact that their love exists at all is a positive thing. The whole novel was about love and tragedy for me and I found the ending very moving.
And I don’t think Pelagia is completely submissive, just think of the feisty way she reacts to Corelli’s return! As for Corelli being bigoted, I see where you’re coming from, but I think this is simply a reflection of how time has moved on. Corelli is an old man by this point and his views are outdated. The novel is set across several generations and I think the writer wants to emphasise that Corelli and Pelagia are past their prime, the world is moving on without them.
